The Open GIS Consortium (Europe) Limited, London, United Kingdom, is a subsidiary of OGC.  The company was formed in 2001 as a non-profit with the purpose to conduct business in Europe on behalf of OGC’s mission, goals and objectives, with a focus on take up and adoption services and market education to cover:

  • Promoting the development and use of advanced open systems standards and techniques to enable the full integration of spatial data and geoprocessing resources into mainstream computing and widespread use of interoperable, commercial geoprocessing software throughout the global information infrastructure; and
  • Representing the European-based membership of OGC in membership organisations/associations in Europe with similar vision and mission to that of the OGC, including agencies, collaborators and affiliates of the European Commission.

By tapping the expertise from the processes and procedures of OGC’s Specification Development Program and Interoperability Program, OGCE will provide a standards based context for the engineering analysis, technical and consensus process to be considered so that the EO2HEAVEN project delivers sustainable results with a lasting impact.

OGCE plays a major role in FP6 and FP7 projects such as RISE, ORCHESTRA, SANY and GIGAS and served on the Framework Development Committee for drafting the INSPIRE Extended Impact Assessment to support the development of INSPIRE. OGCE has since 2004 worked closely with ESA on GMES issues and supports ESA to utilize OGC standards in the GMES Initiative. OGC is managing the GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot (GEO Task AR-07-02). The AI Pilot is leading the incorporation of contributed components consistent with the GEOSS Architecture using a GEOSS Web Portal and a GEOSS Clearinghouse search facility to access services through GEOSS Interoperability Arrangements in support of the GEOSS Societal Benefit Areas.  OGC has been running a series of GEOSS Workshops as a means for dialogue for users looking at GEOSS and its benefits to their application area.  In the specific context of EO2HEAVEN, OGCE will support the application of well proven policies and procedures to run the EO2HEVEN Pilot Implementations as interoperability test beds, open to external participation. OGCE will also leverage the experience managing GEO Task AR-07-02 to initiate and run an implementation pilot for Geo Task HE-07-01/02 based on the EO2HEAVEN work.

OGCE will lead WP6 in the EO2HEAVEN project and participates in all other WPs, thus assuring a close link between Users and Community Stakeholders and project activities.
