EO2HEAVEN training workshops held in Uganda and South Africa

As the EO2HEAVEN is coming to an end in May 2013, various consortium partners have travelled to Uganda and South Africa to participate in workshops. From the 3rd until the 15th of February team members are participating in these workshops. After consultation with the stakeholders in Uganda, the EO2HEAVEN project developed tools to optimize data processing and analysis to support effective cholera outbreak response in Kasese District Uganda. The following tools were developed to be provided to the health professionals working at various levels of the Ugandan health system:

  1. Mobile application (software tool) for patient registration, data dissemination and guiding outbreak response
  2. Standards for data collection and processing
  3. Training in straightforward methods to use available data for epidemiological assessments
  4. Application of advanced spatial and temporal analysis results of cholera data analysis for risk assessment in Kasese, Uganda

Next week, the team will travel to Pretoria, Durban in South Africa. In Durban similar tools to mitigate respiratory illness due to air pollution will be discussed with the global scientific community of Environmental Health. In Pretoria a high level cholera workshop will be conducted to further discuss with a broader audience the results of EO2HEAVEN in support of cholera outbreaks.
